For nine months you carried me under your heart
Then ushered me into your world
When I cried your arms and voice were there
To soothe, comfort and care
There wasn’t a hurt that couldn’t be made better
With a special “Mom” hug and kiss
You made every milestone a special event
My first tooth surprised, my first word delighted
Were those tears in your eyes as you watched
Me take my first steps from babyhood to toddlerhood?
My first day of school we were brave for each other
As I stepped out into a world without you
You were steadfast through the terrible two’s,
The tumultuous teens, the terrifying twenties
The angry words, tears, and deafening silences
Never deterred you from “raising me right”
Whatever happened in my life, I always knew I could count on you
To remind me who I am and the values we share
Today I share new and precious times with those who call me “Mom”
