As a cancer survivor I know what an emotional roller coaster going through treatment can be. May those of you dealing with this disease find new courage, hope and faith to see through your challenges each time you read The Good Fight.
The Good Fight
You came to me like a thief in the night
Taking over my life like you had the right
Never knowing when or where you’d strike next
Left me fearful, lonely and very perplexed
You invaded my body, you tried my soul
Determined to take a terrible toll
But the lessons you taught helped me to learn
Life’s choices are mine—no bridges I’ll burn
Doctors’ worked hard to keep you at bay
My Spirit determined you’ll not have your way
You thought yourself smart and in control
But I’m more than a body, I’ve a strong heart and soul
Dark nights of the soul, so much pain and travail
No match for my Spirit that will always prevail
You threatened my life and brought so much pain
My Spirit said, “NO!” I’ll give you no gain
Each time I fell down, felt the sting of your scorn
My Spirit awoke me to a bright, brand new morn
Your threats and bullying, your constant demands
Strengthened my Spirit….Look! I still stand
You can waste my body like ravages of time
But you can’t take my Spirit
That’s God’s... And mine.
